Every parent has probably warned their children about the dangers of playing with matches. “You might hurt yourself. You could burn the house down.“ Still, the fascination with a box of matches for a child can be hard to resist. Sooner or later, we had to find out for ourselves what those little red-tipped wooden sticks in a box could really do.
I once set ablaze dry brush on a roadside while shooting firecrackers that I took out of the kitchen cabinet. I quickly beat out the growing fire with the shirt I was wearing. Thankfully, I didn’t burn the hillside down or have to call the fire department. I did, however, get in a lot of trouble as I walked home in a shirt burnt nearly in two. Even a Tide Wash couldn’t help that shirt.
This weekend Wisdom Words, our summer series from the book of Proverbs, is a look inside God’s manual for wisdom regarding sexual temptation and sin. In the right context, inside the context of marriage the physical part of our relationship is God’s gift for a husband and wife. Outside that context the physical part of our relationship is like playing with fire. We can do great damage and cause enormous guilt and shame for years to come.
God is a good, good Father and wants only what is best for each of us. Join us this weekend for a fresh look at what God intended for all of us. In the wrong context many of us have known someone, or it could have been us, burned by a really bad unhealthy relationship. Hang on and know for sure it is not over. God is for you, not against you. He will help in our recovery.
Thankfully, our past does not define us. Grace covers everything. Even if we’ve lost our shirt in a fire, God will provide a way. Jesus' blood covers everything. He is better than a Tide Wash. He is the Way, the Truth and the Life. I hope you can check out this very relevant and helpful weekend at Journey. Bring a guest and help a friend.
We’re in this together. Help others discover God’s Wisdom Words.
