Why is it that we seem to remember our bad experiences a lot longer than the really good ones? Bad experiences want to linger for years. It is so hard to just flush a bad smell and move on to something better; know what I mean? I once removed the back seat of a car and discovered a carton of rotten eggs that had fallen in there long ago. When I cracked opened the carton, the eggs disintegrated.
Oh my goodness! The smell nearly knocked me out; just the thought of rotten eggs in a box still brings on the same gag reflex. The most unpleasant smells, or wacky, annoying song lyrics get stuck in our head. Don’t ever listen to the “Baby Shark" song on Youtube; just giving you the heads up. “Baby shark, doo doo doo doo doo doo.” Don’t hate me!
This weekend Journey continues the New Year series, Bigger Jesus = Bigger Life. We’re exploring together practical outlines from the book of Colossians in the Bible. This is written to a young Church whose faith in Jesus was growing bigger. I think you will fin these messages very practical and relevant today.
Jesus really is more than enough; whatever we need in this world and the next. He is our Savior and best friend. He is for us and not against us. Staying better focused on Jesus each day has short term and long term benefits. As Jesus followers we may know this instinctively. However, we’re not Jesus; nobody gets it right all the time. We feel pressure from friends, family or outsiders to consider other options for our time, talent, and treasure.
If you’ve ever had a bad experience in a Church, please consider giving it a try again. It really is worth it. I didn’t quit eating eggs because of a bad odor with eggs long ago. Maybe an internal conflict or a leadership compromise left you wanting to gag at the thought of being engaged regularly, and connected to a local Church ever again. Pray about it and just ask God to guide and lead you to a gathering of all kinds of people where Jesus is helping them recover from life situations all the time.
Life with more Jesus each day is so worth it! Hope to see you at one of our Journey weekend worship gathering times: Saturday @ 6pm/Sunday @ 10:30am.
“Baby shark, doo doo…”. I told you not to listen…. Ha ha. Laugh more, eat more, be together more = A good plan for 2019.
