Giving Thanks

“Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs. Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.” Psalm 100 NIV

This week seems like a good time to pause and reflect upon things which really matter most. With constant negative news cycles in our world, Thanksgiving week becomes a great time to reboot and reflect.

This weekend at Journey we’ll share an outline which helps us remember Thanksgiving is really about being thankful for everything. Even when the world is not fair God is still good. The God who created us all is still at work, even in our chaos and crisis. Whatever local, national, or world event God uses people with flaws like us to further His kingdom on earth.

If you are in town this weekend come inside Journey and share a few moments of worship, confession, and gratitude that God is bigger and greater than our problems; He is worthy of our praise. God is for you and everyone, not everyone knows, we have to tell everyone. We are all better together.

What is your fondest Thanksgiving memory of your childhood? My fondest childhood memory growing up in Kentucky was our grandparents. Both sets of grandparents played a significant role in shaping our lives. The classic line from a song, I still recall often, “Over the River and Through the Woods, to Grandmother’s House we go.” Thanksgiving time takes me back to lots of food, laughter and love shared by our grandparents and family members.

Now that I’m a (6 times) grandparent I also cherish sharing holiday memories with my children and grandchildren whenever possible. If your family is no longer nearby would you consider letting Journey be a part of your holiday tradition? Join us and share a few words of your fondest memories of Thanksgiving past. Just jot down a sentence or two and I will share them in my message this weekend.

As we worship together at Journey we can all thank God and deepen our faith in His goodness to the world. He is worthy.
