Ok, this weekend, May 23/24, Journey Community Christian Church is reopening in-person worship gathering times. After twelve weeks of digital church ONLY services what have you missed the most? I mean really, think about this for a moment before coming inside with other people at Journey Church or other church locations.
Besides seeing our friends, now 6 feet apart and having live worship music again what is it you are hankering for the most? We all have likely taken some things for granted in the past, before COVID19 stay at home guidelines began. As the saying goes, “We never really miss something, until it is gone.” Ringing in my head is that lyric from 70’s hit, Big Yellow Taxi by Joni Mitchell, “They paved paradise to put up a parking lot.” (It’s still on Youtube).
If it has felt something like losing paradise, not being able to be with family and friends for weeks and weeks, what are we now hoping to restore? What has been absent that we passionately desire to relaunch and renew in the new normal of our COVID19 experiences?
These are really great questions to be thinking about now, rather than when we arrive. I don’t want to sound like “Captain Obvious,” but if we’re unclear what we’re looking for that has been missing and absent, how will we find it? Or how can we know it, when it happens? We should not just hurry to return to in-person gatherings without A FEW DEEPER THOUGHTS; realizing vital lessons learned in times of separation.
FOR ME, doing life and worship alone, stuck in isolation for weeks and weeks doesn’t feel right; we know something has been missing. We were created for growing community with other people. This weekend we start a new 7 week series, MERGE… moving Jesus Church back into the world. Bible outlines are taken from Jesus’ words in the Gospel of Mark. We drill down a bit to identify some potential missing ingredients in our personal life? Together we can discuss a few of those real unmet human needs which Zoom groups and Facebook streaming worship services never completely fulfill?
This weekend Jesus words are instructions for growing and deepening TEAMWORK. If you’re ready to try a return to in-person gathering with guidelines, 6 ft apart, we’re ready to help WELCOME YOU BACK. If you are still uncertain this is the right time for you and your family to join others in person that is fine too. We look forward to seeing you in the near future as things continue to settle down with the virus.
If you are staying home this weekend we hope you will continue to follow online with FB live stream in either the Sat@6pm and Sun@10:30am service. Start a watch party and say hello to your fellow Journey family friends meeting inside for the first time in weeks. Show your love and support with a shout out to everyone.
We are better together; both in-person and digital Journey Church.
