Balancing Act

Hey, did you ever go to a Barnum Bailey Circus as a kid? Have you watched Cirque Du Soleil perform on TV? Maybe you’ve seen them perform in person in Las Vegas? In Midland, Texas a traveling Circus would come through each Spring, setting up tents at the Community College. Connie usually grabbed some tickets and took our kids for a couple hours on a Saturday morning.

They loved the sights, sounds, and laughter of the Circus coming to town. Writing about the Circus makes me remember when our kids were young. A day at the Circus usually included popcorn, peanuts and cotton candy. I think maybe they (And Connie) loved the Circus mostly because of the cotton candy.

How about you? What sort of things did/do you like most about the Circus? Whatever type of Circus we’ve attended, normally there were animals and acrobats galore. My favorite part of the Circus (when I went along) had someone walking a tightrope and swinging on a trapeze bar high above the ground.

I was always amazed someone was able to balance and walk across the tightrope without falling. You certainly had to be brave and fearless of heights. And those performers swinging through the air on a trapeze, turning loose, then caught midair by another trapeze artist, wow! They were really trusting everything to their partners strong grip.

All this reminds me of our new, Journey Church Spring worship series, WHY? WHY NOT? Life on earth sometimes feels a bit like a Circus coming to town. It can be both, fun & scary at the same time. What is that about? In this new five week series we’ll take a look at some of the most puzzling, upside words of Jesus messages and ministry.

Our culture has developed a skewed perspective of happiness and success. Jesus promotes an alternative view which is the ONLY WAY forward. “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.” John 14:16 NLT

God’s ultimate desire is for us to try new things, trusting Him, even more? God wants us to believe more deeply, He can forever, be trusted? Faith is a balancing acts. No matter how topsy turvy

life may appear, Jesus promises to catch us every time.

Join us Journey Sat@6pm or Sun@10:30am. INVITE a seat buddy. Ask them if they have ever been to the Circus? This might be just the conversation starter for you to tell them more about Jesus. We’ll even give away the popcorn at the Journey Coffee bar if that would help you! We are better together.

If you want a head start? This first episode is a dandy: Jesus teaches = FIRST is really LAST!
