“When life hands you a lemon, make lemonade,” wrote Norman Vincent Peale, who published the well-known book, The Power of Positive Thinking, in 1952. The book stayed in The New York Times bestseller list for “186 consecutive weeks.” Much of what the author shared was helpful and good advice.
I frequently quote authors with positive thoughts. But, the words of Jesus words go well beyond, mere positivity. Norman Vincent Peale said, “A positive mental attitude is a belief that things are going to turn out well., and that you can overcome any kind of trouble or difficulty.”
Jesus said, “With God all things are possible” (Matthew 19:26). His words are far more than the power of positive thinking. The Bible is clear, the power of God is what makes the seemingly impossible = POSSIBLE! Luke 1:37, the angel when speaking to Mary of Jesus and His virgin birth, boldly declares, “For nothing will be impossible with God.”
How might we stay positive and clear regarding the future? My advice, read every positive author you come across, Check that box. Then, clear your closets of negativity. Check that box also. Yes, yes, and yes. But there is more, way more we can do.
My all-time best advice is to include the positive words in the Bible as part of your daily reading. Get a daily perspective from the One who created the Universe and everything in it. He created people like us who have plenty of questions? It’s OK to not be OK. However, we don’t have to be anxious and fearful. God has promised to be with us though everything (Matthew 28:20). God keeps every promise.
Here is your invite to join us for Journey weekend Sat@6pm/Sun@10:30am in-person and online. In part 3 of our current winter series we take a stab at making The Change to be more, more like Jesus. Becoming the better version of whom God wants us to be. This God- change of mind, heart, and action is truly an Extreme Make-Over. The Bible word is transformation. People will want to know what is different about you? Change for more God is a good call.
Discovering our true identity in Jesus is our most important treasure in life. It is never too late. As the KLOVE song says, Our past does not define us, that is what our Father does. It is never impossible; with God nothing is impossible.
I am certain of certain things! When we know who we are, we know what to do. Join us the weekend at Journey Community Christian Church. This is a place you can return to often and feel like you belong and have a forever family. We will share more positivity and Assurance and Reassurance from 1 John 3 in the Bible this weekend.
Who knows? Maybe we will serve lemonade at the coffee bar! WE are better together!
