Being Honest

“I try to pray but the words aren’t coming out the way they used to
Did I lose my faith God do I still trust You (mmm)

I try to worship but when I lift my hands it all just feels so empty
Is it the heavy of the world or is it just me (mmm)
Though I’ve sung a thousand times
You’re perfect and You’ll never leave my side
Can I be honest
I just wanna know that You still got this
When all I’m holding onto is a promise
God You promised
That You’ll never leave me
When I’m scared of the dark You’re right there with me
Your kindness never fails, it’s always reaching after me
But right now, God all I need
Is to be honest”
Leanna Crawford - “Honest”
Those lyrics from a KLOVE song really speak truthfully about being human beings; doubting, hoping at the same time. It’s OK to not be OK, just don’t stay that way. Jesus wants to help. Once, Jesus was confronted by a father needing a miracle. His son was demon-possessed, out of control; no one could help. (Mark 9:14-29).
Here are a few of the father’s words, and Jesus' response. In desperation, the father sought out Jesus in a large crowd, saying, “Have mercy on us and help us, if you can” (Mark 9:22). Jesus responded to the father, “What do you mean, ‘If I can’? Jesus asked. ‘Anything is possible if a person believes.’
Raw, honest words flowed from the pleading father’s mouth: “The father instantly cried out, ‘I do believe, but help me overcome my unbelief!” (Mark 9:24). Like the KLOVE song above, we’ve all found ourselves needing help. Sometimes it is boosting our faith to believe impossible things. Other times, it is just every day sort of choices, accepting and believing God is for real.
In Mark 9:14 Jesus rescues the demon-possessed boy when no one else could help; not even the father. This weekend at Journey Church Cynthiana we’re taking a look at Romans 1:18-32. In this part of the Apostle Paul’s explanation of humanity, we discover that we all need help. This help from God is a personal choice. Refusing God’s help is always disastrous.
Join us this weekend and grab some notes. We’re all going to need this Bible direction for life’s hardest & even normal situations. Whether we need a miracle like the father with his demon-possessed son, or, we’re just not feeling it; the energy and enthusiasm for worship times with God is just not there right now!
What can I do? Answer: Let God help! It’s a personal choice to get better. Jesus will help with our unbelief. Go God.
