If we were having coffee right now, and I asked, “What’s your favorite movie?” What would you say?  Or, “What is your favorite book?” What if I asked you to declare, “Your favorite sports team?” I am sure there would be quick responses for a list of our favorites. We all have favorites, which is a good thing.

This weekend at Journey Community Christian Church-Cynthiana we’re in a fall/winter series from Romans in the Bible. I am really excited about this specific message. This is one of my favorites. Romans is my favorite book (letter) in the Bible. Chapter 8 in Romans is my favorite chapter in Romans. And Romans 8:28 is my favorite, all time verse. Let me share this verse right now.

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love, who have been called according to his purpose.” Rm 8:28 NIV

If you’ve been feeling a bit like the “bottom dweller” in the fish bowl of life—underachiever, under-sourced, over-looked, the most forgotten “book” on the shelf, THIS message can change everything. Go God.

Many people I coach and counsel often begin with a familiar opening line: “My personal life seems to be fueled by my own mistakes and failures.” If this sounds like you or anyone you know, don’t despair. Join us in person-online for Journey Sat@6pm & Sun@10:30am.

One thing I can promise—if you give this message a shot—lean in and listen, you’ll walk away with more confidence than when you arrived. Everyone has a story. Jesus is the best story teller, ever. He helps all of us rewrite some of the worst chapters. Before you know it, your story makes a big turn-around. Jesus changes everything.

Jesus helps us shake off negativity. How? Jesus is a realist; everybody fails eventually. That’s the bad news. The Good News is that Jesus promises to recycle our fear and failure, often. Jesus is the gold standard in this business, our re-make and restart of a better story.

When I was in High School things were often a little rough for my academic confidence and prowess. What made my experience even more of a challenge in High School, one of the guys in most of my classes was a genius. I don’t mean he was just good at math; he was great at everything—comprehension, testing, and performance. He “aced” everything my Senior Year.

I grew to resent this guy, though he did nothing negative in particular to me. I doubt he even knew my first name. I’m sure this guy was a nice guy, admired by everyone. My discomfort for this classmate—he ruined any hope of grading on the curve. He ruined the scores for the rest of mid-level students, just hoping to graduate.

I’m sure you have examples of others who seem to perform at the highest level in their field. And then wish and wonder, “Why can’t that be me?” Maybe, you too, have resented their success? If any of this resonates and makes sense with you today, what I’m about to say will be enough to get you to join us THIS weekend at Journey Church.

The main idea of Romans chapter 8—we discover God grades on the curve!

Make plans to join us—bring a friend. This is the sort of vibe in the Bible which everyone can use for building a little confidence. Go God.
