Getting Spun Around

We are all just people. Real life experiences, like a sudden storm, may spring upon us, often without warning. People often become overwhelmed. We're not Jesus. Last night we had strong thunderstorms moving through our area. The wind became fierce for a couple of hours after dark. My trees in the yard were blowing and bent over from strong wind gusts.

This morning, I saw plenty of evidence of the storms overnight. I had leaves and small broken branches scattered about my yard. I was grateful it wasn’t worse. I have seen trees come down in some of these kind of storms. Sometimes we feel helpless during a storm which rages. We’re just people.
Emotional storms are like literal storms; coming at us quickly. Our relationships with the people we care about most can be at risk during disagreements. People, like leaves and branches on a tree, get torn apart. When people get spun-around, in every direction, like the trees in my yard, we become alarmed and frightened. We panic, wondering, "Will this personal storm I’m in ever be over?"
Hang on to Jesus in every storm. Jesus changes our stormy weather. Jesus once spoke to the stormy winds and waves (Mark 4:35-41 AMP) on the Sea of Galilee. His disciples were in a boat with Him. They felt alone. Jesus was sound asleep, at the back of the boat, weary from serving people. They became alarmed, frightened, fearful of drowning. Jesus changes everything.
Jesus awakens and simply spoke, “Peace, be still (V.39).” And the wind and waves were instantly calmed. Jesus changes everything. He calmed not only the stormy weather on the sea, but also the stormy fear, anxiety, and concern of His disciples. On our worst day, and in our worst storms, Jesus is with us. He is with us in the boat (V.36). Jesus changes everything.
This weekend at Journey Church Cynthiana—we wrap up our summer series, JONAH, GO! In the final episode #4, chapter four in the Bible, Jonah becomes angry at God. Warning: Don’t let our anger and emotions get the best of us. Don’t be like Jonah, who was spun-around by disappointment, disobedience, fear, and finally, anger at God. Learn again WHO rescues us from bottom of the deep blue sea, and the belly of a big fish. God is for us.
Jesus can do that for you and I today—in our worst life event; in our worst storms. Even if our life is out of control, spun around by unpleasant situations in life, TRUST God, OBEY God, and FOLLOW God. Ask God to calm the situation, and calm us. Jesus changes everything.
See you Journey Sat@6pm/Sun@10:30am in person and online. Help someone else check things out. There is a little bit of Jonah in each of us. This wrap up may be just the blessing we need to get turned around in a better way.
Go Jonah. Go God.
