Every person has different experiences in life. If you grew up in a big family there was likely plenty of chatter around the dinner table. Maybe you were a single parent and it was the sounds of small children which made you smile. I hope today you are smiling as you read these few words. I am rooting for you.

Words can help or hurt. We have to constantly choose which it will be. When navigating the world a person (whatever age) runs into plenty of bumps, bruises, and boo boo band-aids. A crisis is not always a bad thing. Good things can happen. A few minutes ago I was strolling down the sidewalk to pick up the Journey mail. As I turned to walk back to the office a voice behind me shouted, “Help, call 9-1-1.”

About 20 yards away, I spotted a delivery truck driver, trying to hold a person up. He was in the alley behind Dollar Tree. The lady worked there and was helping unload. Immediately whatever was on my mind, vanished. I rushed over. The lady had gotten dizzy while in the cargo truck. She passed out. The driver caught her, but she went down, skinning her knee and leg. She didn’t know what happened. The delivery driver had come to her aide. Way to go.

By the time I arrived, she was talking, sitting up. She was white as a ghost. I had my phone and was talking with a 9-1-1 dispatcher. In a few minutes the store manager, the cashier, and the ambulance driver all arrived, taking over. The truck driver and myself, waved and thanked everyone for a quick response. I think she is OK. She said she is 71. Glad for people who arrive when help is needed. A crisis isn’t all bad.

This reminds me of part 3 in our current summer series, Do Something. When I heard a voice yelling for help, everything changed. Nothing else mattered.  When we hear or see someone in trouble, we react quickly. This is how it should be. People helping people. DO SOMETHING. God has given us radar and God-given instincts to help others in trouble. This was/is the mission of the Church Jesus started.

We can all DO SOMETHING good in life. Look for opportunities.  Like 1st responders answering a calls for help. Just DO SOMETHING good every day. Not just an emergency moment. The early, 1st century Church practiced quick responses telling, sharing, caring, going, and INVITING new people.

Join in this weekend at Journey Community Christian Church in Cynthiana.  We celebrate our Journey birthday. Journey is 18 years old. Let’s have a Jesus party. Let’s invite everybody. Let’s tell everybody Jesus changes everything. Let’s do this.

Invite someone to be YOUR guest. Let’s make it a Dee-Dah-Day.
