Making commitments today is difficult for many people. We’re all trying to keep our options open for better opportunities. Who wants to book a vacation to Florida in the Spring, if I have a chance, later, to go to Hawaii? Having freedom to choose is a gift to enjoy. However, our freedom of choice can also become conflicting and confusing.

Have you noticed how long term relationships are tricky. What if I make a hasty decision about a marriage mate. What then? Break ups are hard to do. Here’s another thing: Jobs today are plentiful. We have more jobs available than people to fill positions. However, constant turnover in service jobs and corporate jobs has become the new norm. Many college graduates are not working in the field of their chosen degree. It’s a weird time in the job market.
This weekend, after Christmas message (Last Sunday: What does Christmas mean — God is knowable, Truth is tangible, People are valuable, Our life is meaningful) we’re jumping back into the Bible and our current winter series from Romans.
The final weekend of 2025 we’re discovering God ordained three forever institutions for our world — all requiring extra effort and commitment. If you would like to get a head start, the text is Romans 13:1-14. In this part of the Bible we’ll identify — Government, Home, and Church are the three forever God ordained institutions for people everywhere.
This chapter in Romans might be the best boost for our personal renewal of commitment before turning the calendar page to a New Year. Being different in a God kind of way, we learn being committed — it’s our DUTY!
Being available and committed as citizens, parents, and neighbors is a challenging topic. I believe we find encouragement and fresh direction in a discussion which is trending today. Our trending news each morning has headlines related to effective government, healthy family life, and more neighborly religion.
If you are new at Journey Church or have gathered with us for years, set aside a part of your weekend to join us in person or online. INVITE a family member, friend, acquaintance who may be curious about What the Bible says… regarding our DUTY to these three institutions in modern times.
I believe the Bible has exactly what is needed for our God mission in the world. Check this message out, take a few notes — find renewed confidence and hope for a New Year. Let’s do this.
We’re better together. It’s our DUTY.
Merry Christmas thoughts for you and your loved ones. God is good. Jesus changes everything.
Jesus really is Good News for the world.
