“March Madness” 2025 winds down this weekend for Men’s and Women’s College Basketball. Shout-out to all participants. Congrats to each school and player who competed in both tourneys. Four teams remain in each league. After a final game of the season the Men’s Champion will be crowned, Monday night, in San Antonio, Tx. The Women’s Champion will be crowned Sunday night after their final game of the year in Tampa, Florida.

In these Final Four matchups are elite teams and fan favorites. Star players were recruited (often for several years) with hopes of being crowned Champion. New players make up these teams each school year. Potential players visit schools and teams before graduating High School. Coaches look for players whose skills/chemistry/experience complement their team goals. Players look for schools who offer instant impact and playing time.

Normally, those schools able to offer the most benefits have a recruiting advantage. Eventually, a player chooses a school, followed by a public “signing day.” This is a big deal for the school, players, coaches, and parents involved.

Let me shift gears for a second. Easter 2025 weekend is in a few weeks, April 19th/20th. If you are somehow, reading this article today, but not yet a regular in a weekend worship anywhere, I get it. Not everyone is a big College Basketball fan. You may not have any interest in the sport at all. For some people, Easter celebration might be a mystery. What’s the big deal?

If Easter services are not on your calendar this year, give me a chance to explain. Easter celebrations each year in churches around the world is something like “Signing Day” in sports.

This weekend at Journey Community Christian Church in Cynthiana we’ll take another look at our current series, JESUS, what to know BEFORE EasterPart 1, last weekend, we learned the WHO part. WHO is Jesus anyway? He is Good News (John 3:16). He came to rescue the world. All of it. He is the One and only Son of God and our Savior. His death & resurrection from the tomb (3 days later) brings mercy, grace, and forgiveness for all sins. Wow, God.

Part 2, this weekend, we discover the HOW.  How would I join His team - Team JESUS - if I wanted to?  Short answer: Easter becomes our “signing day” with Jesus and His followers. Dude, Jesus' team is GOOD NEWS. And there is room on His bench for EVERYONE. This is where the College Basketball similarities end.

Jesus' Team is not about competing for a scholarship and spot on the team. You choose to follow Jesus. We don’t need big church or little church. Either one. We don’t hand out mega contracts to “star” players; Jesus is the only STAR in this game.

Why not jump in with us this weekend, Journey Church Cynthiana. Or any church nearby, wherever you are. Jesus has a spot on His roster for regular people. People in every neighborhood, nation, and people group are invited.

Come and See… what Jesus is all about…
