Small Details Matter

“A businessman from Wisconsin went on a business trip to Louisiana. Upon arrival and check-in, he grabbed his laptop, sending an email and quick note to his wife = JENNIFER JOHNSON.
Her email address: JennJohn@world.net Unfortunately, in his haste he mistyped a single letter and his email was misdirected to JeanJohn@world.net .

Jean Johnson was in Duluth, Georgia and the wife of preacher who had passed away a couple days earlier. In fact she had just returned home after the funeral—and had decided to open her email, checking messages, she may have missed. The preacher’s wife took one look at the email and promptly fainted. It read: ‘Arrived safely but it sure is HOT down here!’
Someone has aptly described,. “As big as the moon is in the sky, if we tried to navigate travel to the moon, only by looking at the moon—we would miss landing on the moon by a country mile.”
This weekend we’re back in our current series from Romans in the Bible. This time we explore chapter 10 where we learn God’s family in the Old Testament often had an unhappy history with God. They were God’s chosen family—but often missed being the family of God by a country mile. At times it was a direct rebellion of God’s instructions. Other times, it was failure in smaller details of God’s heart. We all have our moments and mistakes. We’re not Jesus. Nobody gets it right all the time.
What should we do? How might we avoid rebellion against God’s words in the Bible? What might we do to mitigate mistakes before they happen? If you find these questions relevant, join us this weekend at Journey Community Christian Church. We have options: Journey Sat@6pm and Sun@10:30am.
People who follow us online often share, “We’re glad to catch the online streaming of the weekly message. It helps us stay connected. But it is even better in person.” Try in person services when you can. Give it a shot. Even if you’ve been an online regular. Virtual worship experiences are not the same as in-person gathering. Glad we have both options.
History lessons in the Bible are good reminders. Often it is not the big things, but smallest details which trip us up. Keep this in mind. Our previous failure doesn’t define us. Our Jesus relationship does. Past mistakes become opportunities to learn from. Stay focused on God. Keep it up for longer periods of time.
Jump inside this weekend at Journey Church. Bring a seat mate and help them follow along. We are better together. When they ask, “What’s it about?” Just say, "More God. Less me."
